Batchworth Community Council (BCC) has applied for a grant from Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) to purchase Cloisters Hall for use as a community hub.
Recently listed on Zoopla for £1.5million, BCC would need to raise considerable funds to acquire the space.
Between January 1 and February 13, organisations across the district were invited to apply for funds from TRDC’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). The money accrued in the CIL pot comes from developers to help local councils build the new infrastructure necessary to support development projects.
Chair of BCC councillor Andrea Fraser said: “Rickmansworth has raised millions of pounds from developments within our area, but we’ve seen very little invested back into Ricky.
“We’re really hoping that TRDC will help us buy Cloisters Hall. We recently lost our hall in the Bury that had been a huge support to the community and the other halls are not available for BCC to use.”
Additionally, several local organisations have contacted BCC to ask whether they might be able to use any new community hall that is purchased. The Royal Voluntary Service needs a space to host its lunches, whilst the residents’ association and Crochet Club have also expressed interest.
TRDC has confirmed that it has received the application from BCC.
