CLIFF’S LEGACY: Beloved Croxley community figure’s shop to live on as son takes the reins

Published on: 4th August 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Croxley Sports Shop, run by recently deceased local legend Cliff Vassiliou, is to carry on in an online format, with his son Simon now carrying on his father’s legacy.

The store on Waford road has been a fixture in the village for more than 27 years, but its future was left uncertain after Cliff passed away in May.

Now, Cliff’s son Simon has revealed the shop will be moving online, with the shop closing down and him taking over the business.

Speaking to CroxleyNews, he said: “I used to help dad with the shop, so I’m familiar with everything anyway. It felt like a natural progression.

“Unfortunately, the shop can’t stay due to overheads.”

All the services people remember from the Croxley Sports Shop will remain, including the embroidery and printing, with new products set to be arriving in the coming weeks.

The business has also become a real family affair, with Simon’s wife and daughter taking a real interest in it.

“My wife helps out a lot, and my daughter’s really taken it, she’s really gotten involved. We also have great help from Chloe Alder, who worked in the shop before. There’s a big team mentality and family feel to it.”

Simon also spoke about his reaction to his father going viral shortly before his death, in a post that galvanised visits to the shop, and the widespread reaction to his passing.

“It’s been overwhelming in a really great way. Not a single person has not had a story to tell me about my dad, and so many people came to the funeral from all walks of life. It shows sometimes social media can be used for a positive.”

The website for Cliff’s Sports is currently a work in progress, but it is up and running for customers to log onto and use the embroidery and printing services. To visit, follow this web link www.cliffsports.co.uk
