Buckinghamshire Council’s Community Safety Group will launch a new self-defence class for women and girls in Amersham and the surrounding areas.
The classes will be free of charge and a funding application was recently approved to go towards instructor costs, equipment, venue costs, and mileage.
The project was proposed due to “growing concerns” around violence against women and girls. It aims to improve their safety and reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Three 90-minute sessions are proposed, which would accommodate 30 participants each.
Details about the location and time are yet to be announced.
Last year, a one-off self-defence class in the county had a waiting list of more than 65 people.
One in three women in Great Britain experienced harassment in 2021 and around 60 per cent of women who experience violence don’t seek out support.
