“In fair Chalfont St Peter, you are sure to find a welcome and a friendly face, somewhere to unwind,” according to the new Choose Chalfont campaign.
Though many people may reach for their phones or laptops to buy the things they need, local shops are asking residents to think more carefully about where to spend their hard-earned cash.
In a short video featuring many friendly faces from the High Street, including House of Cards, Fake It, and Vinny & Ted, shop and business owners have shared the things that make their area so special.
The poem recited in the video was created by Sally Rosser from Pretty Witty.
Nationally, the fear of losing the High Street has led to the creation of Colour Friday, a holiday shopping event which supports local artisans, independent shops and creators.
But the Choose Chalfont campaign also highlights the particular challenges of businesses in the local area, including the multiple flooding and road closures earlier this year.
Those who do decide to take a stroll to the shops will see the Choose Chalfont poster, illustrated by Jeanette Koski from Pretty Witty, displayed in many shop windows.
Sally shared: “It feels like it is now or never for the High Street. Just walking to a local shop to get your things would be such a wonderful resolution. We have the power to improve where we live.”
For resident Charlotte Lomas-Farley, she “hadn’t realised how dire the situation was” until speaking to shopkeepers. She then came up with the idea for the Choose Chalfont campaign.
Speaking to CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews, Charlotte said: “I hope this will be a catalyst and spark change to create a different mindset, but also help shopkeepers to feel re-energised.”
