CHESS VALLEY: Croxley rugby club take part in community match at local school

Chess Valley Rugby Football Club (RFC) Under 14s recently took part in a local school’s rugby week.

Travelling to Merchant Taylor’s school in Northwood, the Under 14s played a midweek evening match on November 11 as part of their rugby week.

Speaking about the match, Head Coach, Stuart Miles said: “Chess were under pressure early on, struggling to get used to playing under floodlights. Harrow were awarded a scrum and scored to take an early lead.

“Nerves settled and quick ball out wide saw Amos Beloe on the wing break through only to be stopped just before the line. Two minutes later in a replica play, Amos got past the fullback to score making it 5-5.

“Strong forward play from Chess paid off as Ciaran Lynch went over following consecutive crash balls from the forwards. Just before the break Harrow equalised with their player rushing through the centres.

“Chess switched off at a penalty and Harrow broke away to score a late consolation try. Chess continued to press and were unfortunate not to score more. There were a number of standout performances, however Cameron Curreri playing at full back was the Man of the Match with safe hands, positive running and a well-deserved try.”

Stuart added: “The reason why this event was particularly special was due to the collaborative approach taken between the club and the school who offered us the chance to use their fantastic facilities and arranged the event.  Chess Valley RFC is very keen to be an active part of the community therefore initiatives such as this are a great opportunity to work together.”

The club is always keen to welcome new players so if you are interested in joining, please contact us:  www.pitchero.com/clubs/chessvalley/contact
