The English Middleweight Boxing Champion who hails from Watford has thanked his sponsors and supporters ahead of his next fight this Saturday May 19 at the Woodside Leisure Centre.

Elliott Matthews is unbeaten in 20 fights and has his sights on grabbing the European title.

Elliott, who took up boxing as a 17-year-old, said: “I’m looking forward to what will be a homecoming for me as it’s the first time in 20 years I’ve fought in Watford.

“I’ve really looking forward to this fight and that’s highlighted the importance of having sponsors such as Gibbs Gillespie and others. Their generous support has meant I can focus fully on my training and be in great shape come fight night.”

Gibbs Gillespie which has 10 offices across Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Buckinghamshire started sponsoring Elliott following a chance meeting in a gym.

Elliott explained: “I met James Gibbs in the David Lloyd gym in Northwood where I train. He was watching an Anthony Joshua fight and we got talking. He’s been a really great supporter of mine and his agency has given me tremendous backing.”

James Gibbs said: “I’ve been a boxing fan for decades. Seeing the hard work and dedication Elliott puts in to his training is inspiring. We’re proud to support people in our community who are striving to do their best and Elliott is a great role model for young people.”

Elliott said: “I am proud to work with great sponsors like Gibbs Gillespie and would like to thank my other sponsors including JK Rail, Mind Body Retreats, Elevation Scaffold Services and my Rickmansworth team Nick Darling, Creg Woollard and Gabi Matthews.

Elliott added: “My manager Mark Prior, who is also a local boy deserves a mention for putting on the English title fight, my fight in Watford and winning the bid for a shot at the European title. We’re working towards a shot at a World title.

“I’m constantly working on new stuff with my trainers Dennis Maycock and Charles Oliver. I really believe anything is possible. I feel if I’d have stayed with my former manager and trainer I’d be going nowhere.”
