Published on: 5th February 2026   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Featured

David, from Kings Langley, celebrated a huge milestone by turning 100 on Friday, December 5, surrounded by friends, family, and residents at The Lodge Care Home.

A devoted Watford FC fan, David shared his memories of travelling to the cinema in Watford during the Second World War with KINGSnews.

He later built a career as a psychiatric nurse at Leavesden Hospital, where he worked for many years.

A passionate Watford FC fan, David has been a season ticket holder since the late 1970s and supported the club for many decades alongside his family and friends.

His daughter Jennie said her father still attends home matches with her brother, continuing a long-standing family tradition.

Staff at The Lodge Care Home marked the milestone by decorating the home with balloons and organising special activities, including a visit from a miniature petting pony.

Residents were invited to pet and stroke the pony, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

The Mayor of Dacorum attended the celebrations, speaking with David and learning about his life experiences.

The care home also contacted Watford FC, resulting in a visit from former Watford player Ian Bolton.

During his visit, Ian spoke with David and answered questions about his time at the club.

Children from a primary school designed birthday cards for David, which were described as “delightful”.

Jennie said: “He is a kind and caring man. He loves to chat and tell jokes, keeps up with the news and has a positive attitude, which keeps him young.”
