Published on: 17th May 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two incredible acts will be headlining the Main Stage at Watford’s Big Centenary Celebration in Cassiobury Park on Saturday, June 4, – X Factor winners Rak-Su and Grammy-nominated artist Naughty Boy.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “This is an exciting year for Watford and our day of celebration on June 4 is bringing together all that’s best about our town, including a fantastic range of local talent.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming Naughty Boy and Rak-Su both with roots in Watford to star in our concert – we know that they will put on an amazing show for Watford.  We will be announcing more details of the day over the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out”.

Headliner, Naughty Boy, said: “I will always be a Watford Boy and I am proud to call Watford my hometown as the council always do such great stuff in the community. From their work to make Watford a ‘dementia-friendly’ town, which is very personal to me as a Dementia UK Ambassador, to incredible events like this. I’m looking forward to celebrating the town and bringing everyone together through music to celebrate Watford’s journey in the last 100 years and make memories to last for the next 100.”

Designed to bring people from across the borough together to celebrate their town, its history and all it has to offer, as well as the Platinum Jubilee, the event kicks off at noon with a vibrant parade of art and dance through the town centre, featuring local businesses, community organisations and residents.

The parade will end at the Bandstand in Cassiobury Park, where there will be an afternoon of music, dance and performance from local artists for everyone to enjoy.  Bring a picnic to join the Big Jubilee lunch.

From 6pm, our headline acts take to the main stage to provide an evening of fantastic live music.

Performers include the ever popular Martin Kaye band celebrating the music of Elton John, retro-soul singer/songwriter Stephanie McCourt and star performers Rak-Su and Naughty Boy.

Other features of Watford’s Big Centenary event include children’s rides, food and drink stalls and performances.

Attendees can also look forward to an arts and crafts village featuring many small local businesses including partners from One Local and Watford Area Arts Forum.

This will give the local talent a chance to showcase and sell their work and the public a chance to purchase some wonderful locally produced items.

Watford Borough Council has collaborated with local arts companies Harlequin Theatricals (the team behind Stage in the Park 2021), The Watford Pumphouse, Amanartis Studios and Think About It Films to deliver this outstanding celebration of all things Watford.

Watford’s Big Centenary is proudly sponsored by Warner Bro. Studio Tour Leavesden, Murrills, the Berkeley Group, Stage in the Park, Chamber of Conscience and The Pump House.

The event is free of charge. People and families are encouraged to bring picnics, rugs and chairs – whatever they need to relax and enjoy the day. For more information about Watford’s BIG Centenary Celebration and other upcoming events and activities , please visit watfordcentenary.com/
