Local heroes from Kings Langley were recently honoured as part of the parish council’s Community Awards.

Individuals who have gone above and beyond in the community were recognised in a ceremony on April 19, following Kings Langley Parish Council’s Annual General Meeting.

Four-year-old Grace was awarded for her bravery. When her mum collapsed and had a seizure, Grace used her mum’s mobile to phone to call her mum’s friend for help. Grace looked after her mum and opened the door to the paramedics.

Beverly Ford, owner of Dolly’s Hair & Nail Salon, picked up the Environmental Sustainability Award for efforts to promote the environment.

The Kings Langley Neighbourhood Plan team were awarded for their determination to produce a village plan and allow residents to have a say on its development.

Joyce Gray was honoured for her role in the Women’s Institute and setting up and maintaining the community library, as well as being part of the team that revived the village newspaper.

Gary Ansell and Ann Johnson accepted an award on behalf of the Kings Langley & District Residents’ Association. The duo have acted as chair and secretary since the group was set up more than 25 years ago and have provided a voice to fight development within the village.

Former parish council clerk Paul Dunham, who recently resigned from the role after more than 17 years, was awarded for his efforts to make the village a better place.

Council chair Howard Button said: “I never cease to be amazed at how many of our local residents put so much of their time, effort and enthusiasm into voluntary activities in Kings Langley. In my experience, it’s quite unprecedented.”
