A prisoner at The Mount in Bovingdon has been sentenced to 10 months after he was caught twice with a mobile phone last year.
Josh Moore, 28, ran from his cell with the first phone when officers came to carry out a search.
He threw it down a toilet in a room, but it was recovered.
Two weeks later, on June 22 last year, they went to his cell and found a second phone under a pillow.
St Albans Crown Court heard today that the first phone had been used to make and receive 4,324 calls between May 15 and June 8 last year.
279 calls had been made on the second phone between June 17-19.
Moore, a serving prisoner now at Highpoint jail in Suffolk, was sentenced having pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a mobile phone in prison and two of transmitting sound or images on a phone in prison. He chose not to appear on a video link.
He had been recalled to prison on a eight-year sentence for aggravated burglary.
Moore had attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new partner after he found them in bed together.
In September this year he was jailed for 40 months for supplying Class A drugs.
Defending Darryl Cherrett said the phones had not been used for “any criminal purpose.”
Judge Philip Grey sentenced Moore to 10 months saying he accepted there were no criminal activity in their used, but said they undermined the prison regime.
