A Scout from Chorleywood is getting ready to represent the village at next year’s World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.

Callum Wright, 14, from Chorleywood Explorer Scouts has been selected to represent Hertfordshire in the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in North America. They will be attending alongside 40,000 other scouts representing 168 countries.

Callum’s proud mother Sarah said to be selected he had to fill in a detailed form explaining why they’d be the right candidate to represent Rickmansworth and Chorleywood district and form part of the Hertfordshire contingent at the Jamboree, and then attend a rigorous selection day taking part in team building activities, giving presentations and being interviewed.

There were just seven places available for the district, which covers Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Mill End, Croxley Green and Sarratt.

From now to July 2019 when they depart for West Virginia the Jamboree participants will be taking part in team building events, hikes and camps every month to train them and help them get to know the other young people from Hertfordshire that they will be travelling with.

Attendees at the Jamboree have to raise £2900 to attend and Sarah said she and Callum would be pleased to hear from anyone in the village who could help.

She said: “The young people who attend the Jamboree from Hertfordshire are encouraged to raise funds for their trips through events and odd jobs and so on. He has already started his fundraising by Jet washing neighbours patios, looking after cats whilst their owners are on holidays and doing gardening work.”

Callum has two fundraising events coming up. On May 19, he is hosting an Ultimate 80s Night at Scout Hut HQ in Orchard Drive, Chorleywood. Tickets are £10 including first drink free and table snacks.

They are available from www.wegottickets.com/event/435757 or sarah.wright74@googlemail.com

On May 29 Callum is holding a rock painting workshop for everyone from 9am to 12pm at Scout HQ. All rocks to be hidden around Chorleywood as part of #chorleywoodrocks for others to find. Just £2, no need to book.
