Local theatre group Rickmansworth Players are to perform in a production of Calendar Girls: The Musical this November at Watersmeet Theatre.
Based on the hit 2003 film, which itself was based on an extraordinary true story, the show tells the tale of a group of Yorkshire Women’s Institute ladies, who in a surprising act, decide to do a nude calendar to raise money for charity. Along the way, the women discover more about themselves than ever before.
Show director Paul Skinner said: “I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be directing this beautiful show with such a brilliant cast. Each week I get to watch extraordinary women playing extraordinary women.
“Calendar Girls is a show that is at its very core about community, friendship and looking out for one another and I can with all honesty say that if there was ever a show where life imitates art it is this one!”
The Players are looking forward to returning to Watersmeet for the first time since their award-winning production of The Addams Family.
With the production, the group will also be fundraising for chosen charity the Peace Hospice. Audience members will be able to donate to the charity at the end of the show, as well as through buying branded Calendar Girls merchandise.
The show takes place from November 23-26. To find out more about the theatre society, visit their website.
