Business owner to raise awareness of Meningitis

Published on: 2nd November 2018   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Croxley Green business owner is launching a new company in conjunction with Meningitis Now charity.

Jim White, director of Quest Property Construction, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 29 to open the new business, AFW Sand & Stone.

Jim and his fiancée Lauren’s second son Alfie, contracted viral meningitis and spent the first month of his life in intensive care, fighting to survive.

Jim said: “It was the most difficult time of our life, following the excitement of a new baby, to not knowing if Alfie would ever come home. I’ve always wanted to give something back, so I’ve put everything into this. My life savings are into this now, there’s no money left, the bank is empty.”

Ambassador for Meningitis Research, Onaiza Fice, who lost her son to the disease in 2000, cut the ribbon to officially open the business.

She said: “After birth I took him (my son) home and he was fine for 28 days then he just fell ill and took him to hospital and he died within 11 hours of talking him to hospital. The advice I give to any parent is to follow their instinct and insist that doctors form a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis and septicaemia.”

Jim added: “The whole family are eternally grateful that Alfie won his fight for life. Without constant research and the specialist knowledge of the medical staff, he would not be here today.”

AFW Sand & Stone are offering free same day delivery on all sand, stone, aggregates, cement, mini bags, tonne bags and loose material. To order, call 01923 592222 or 07934 758734.
