An unfortunate night for Bushey boxer Miles Shinkwin as he lost his English title defence against Kick Garvey last night (March 2) at York Hall, Bethnal Green.
Miles lost his English Light Heavyweight title on a mixed decision which was described as a “fantastic battle between both boxers” by on lookers.
Miles, who won the vacant belt against Joel McIntyre in a unanimous decision in December last year, believes he “done more than enough” to keep his belt against Garvey.
In an Instagram post, Miles congratulated his opponent and said he will take some time to reflect before making his next move.
The post read: “First and foremost congratulations to Kirk Garvey, he stayed in there for last 2 rounds when many would of folded and put up a hell of a fight. His reaction at the final bell and the result will tell you all you need to know about how he felt the fight went and as the champion I believe I had done more than enough to keep my belt with the strong finish in the championship rounds. I feel I wasn’t at my best last night but what I had was still good enough to beat a very good fighter in Kirk. Will have sometime now to reflect before making any decisions going forward. From the bottom of my heart thank you to everyone who came last night. Kirks fans and mine. The atmosphere was something else and gave me what I needed in the final rounds.”
A supporter of Shinkwin who attended the fight last night said both fighters gave it their all and it was hard to choose a clear winner.
Talking to MyNews, they said: “Both fighters left it all in the ring and couldn’t have gave any more in my opinion. Miles edged it for me, he finished well but it was hard to choose a clear winner. There was a case for both fighters. The atmosphere was unreal, congratulations to both fighters. Both a respect to the sport.”
