BURGLAR STRIKES AGAIN AFTER BEING RELEASED ON BAIL

Published on: 19th March 2014   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Cheeky burglar Kevin Corkhill was granted bail after being arrested for a burglary at the offices of a recruitment centre in Watford.   But that still didn’t stop him from going back for a second time to see what else he could steal.   On Tuesday, March 18,  Corkhill 40, a father of four from Queens Road, Watford, was jailed for two years.   He appeared at St Albans crown court via a video link up with Bedford Prison where he is being held on remand pleading guilty to three charges of burglary. Peter Shaw prosecuting told the court the first two were committed on the same night on January 26 this year.   In the first, Corkhill broke into the offices of ITSS Recruitment in Arliss court, Clarendon Road, Watford.   He caused significant damage getting in and then stole two computers, keyboards, mice, disc drives and headphones.   However, he was caught on CCTV and a PCSO recognised him.   Mr Shaw said the second break in that night occurred when Corkhill broke into a shop called Presence Retail Ltd in The Parade High Street, Watford.   He caused more than £800 worth of damage getting in and then stole cash as well as an Ipod Nano.   The court was told that having been identified by the PCSO, Corkhill was arrested on January 30.   The prosecutor said that having been granted bail Corkill, realising what still could be taken from ITSS, made a return visit late at night on February 14, taking with him bin liners to cart away more computer equipment.   However, he was again spotted on CCTV and this time police caught him still on the premises.   Judge Andrew Bright QC, hearing the case, was told that Corkhill had chalked up 22 previous convictions against a back ground of drug addiction.   He jailed him for two years and told him: “I hope your time in prison will give you the chance to dry out, to focus on the future and get your life back on track.”
