A data centre the height of seven double-decker buses could be built in Bushey as Ark Data Centres prepare to submit a proposal for the old Mercure Hotel site.
The “state-of-the-art” centre will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy and will be able to “deploy a full suite of government, Enterprise, Cloud and AI workloads”.
The proposal would see four 30-metre tall data centre blocks and ancillary buildings on the site.
It is expected a planning application will be submitted later this month.
An Ark spokesperson said: “Ark Data Centres is committed to delivering a state-of-the-art data centre campus in Bushey, bringing substantial investment and opportunity to the area. We are confident this project will generate a total of 235 quality jobs, including 135 direct, on-site roles, plus an additional 100 indirect jobs in the wider local economy. This in addition to potentially thousands during construction.
“We are strongly committed to sensitive design. This site has already been consented for a large-scale logistics development, and in contrast, our proposal ensures a significant enhancement of the local environment.”
