A Croxley resident has been presented with a special award commemorating the 40 years she has spent volunteering for local Girlguiding groups.
Brownie leader Sarah Mulligan was presented with a certificate and 40-year service badge by South West Herts division commissioner Janet Eavis at a ceremony at the end of last month.
Sarah first got involved in Girlguiding when as a young girl, she became a Brownie for a few years whilst living in Malta due to her father’s military role.
A few years later, while living at RAF Cosford, where her dad was station commander, she began to volunteer for the Brownies.
Sarah explained: “I moved around to many different units, as both assistant leader and leader in charge, until I got married and settled in Croxley. During my time, I have been district commissioner, division commissioner and assistant county commissioner.
“I have now made the difficult decision to step down as a unit leader at Christmas but will be staying on to help with the accounts – so will still be guiding, just not every week!”
There are many different ways you can volunteer. To find out more, email volunteer@girlguidinghertfordshire.org.uk
