Schoolchildren at both St Martin’s Preparatory School and Holy Trinity CofE Primary School in Northwood recently enjoyed a visit from children’s author Charlie P. Brooks.

On Monday, April 22, pupils from Years 2, 3 and 4 at both schools came together for the talk from Charlie, who has had an illustrious career as a sports journalist, racehorse trainer, amateur jockey, and now a children’s author. He is well known for his popular Holly Hopkinson trilogy.

During the event, Charlie spoke to the pupils about the many experiences and challenges he has faced in his life, including competing in the Grand National, winning at the Cheltenham Festival, and becoming the UK’s youngest horse trainer.

Eight-year-old pupil Hetansh said: “Charlie was so inspiring. He kept trying and never gave up; that was really brave of him!”

Charlie also spoke about his newest book, Sammy and the Extra-Hot Chilli Powder, and how he collaborated with his daughter on the story.

Rishaan, aged nine, said: “Charlie really made me laugh. I want to read his books, and write my own stories too!”
