Amazing eight-year-old Betsy Griffin, whose YouTube series of positive videos charmed thousands during the COVID lockdown, is set to be launching a new book of positivity this November.
Betsy, who has dealt with an inoperable brain tumour that has left her blind since she was two, has written Out of the Woods: A Tale of Positivity, Kindness and Courage (with some help from a writer), a book designed for both adults and children who are looking for ways to keep positive.
Betsy’s father, Stuart, spoke to CHORLEYWOODnews about how events led to Betsy getting the book made.
“It all started when Betsy wanted to create a positive video channel on YouTube during lockdown. As parents, we weren’t keen on it as she was only six at the time, but she’s very tenacious and persistent, so we relented.
“Soon, the videos were getting hundreds of thousands of views and lots of people had subscribed to the channel. It was amazing.
“Later on, with Braille, she wrote a book, and told me she wanted to get it in a bookshop. So, we went down to the Chorleywood Bookshop, where we met its owner Sheryl. She had seen some of Betsy’s videos and agreed to show the book.”
Later on, Sheryl phoned up Betsy’s parents saying she wanted to make the book even bigger. This set off a chain of events that led to major publishers HarperCollins picking up the rights for a book by Betsy, based on the positive messages of her videos.
Speaking about how he feels about his inspirational daughter’s success, Stuart said: “I feel incredibly proud. It’s been a beautiful story. For an eight-year-old to have gone through everything she did and have learnt all these lessons about life is amazing.”
Out of the Woods: A Tale of Positivity, Kindness and Courage will be available to buy from Tuesday, November 8 this year.
