Chalfont St Peter AFC secured their first victory of the season last night at home against Barking in what was a much-needed performance after losing their first two matches.
Barking, who would have been buoyed with their recent FA Cup Second Qualifying Round victory against Kings Langley, couldn’t take their cup form into the league, and are still looking for their first victory of the campaign.
The opening goal came through Ashley Hunt at the start of the second half after a miscued clearance allowed him to take advantage and strike the ball beyond the covering defenders.
The Saints sealed the victory with five minutes left on the clock, this time it was Sydney Ibie’s wonderfully struck free kick which did the damage.
Ibie’s free kicks are clearly dangerous, and he nearly added an identical goal just a few minutes later, but this time the goalkeeper managed to just about tip the ball onto the crossbar.
The Saints will now be hopeful of building on this result, with an away trip to Bracknell Town coming up this weekend.
