BRILLIANT BAND: Rickmansworth and Watford Sea Cadets officially named among the best in the area

Published on: 1st May 2024   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

Rickmansworth & Watford Sea Cadets have been named the 2024 winners of the Killick Trophy, which is awarded to the second-highest performing Sea Cadet unit in the London area.

Commanding Officer Marlene Rhodes and chair Priyan Patel picked up the group’s trophy at the Annual Awards Celebration Dinner in London on Wednesday, April 10.

The overall winners were the Twickenham Sea Cadets, who won by only one point and were named the highest-performing group in both London and the country.

Over the last few months, the 55-odd members of the local unit have been immersed in activities ranging from providing a carpet guard for the Lord Mayor in London, to playing in the newly relaunched Cadet band. Run by former First Lieutenant Tim Smith, who deputised for the unit during the 1980s, the TS Band is now six sessions into its relaunch.

Marlene explained: “Tim came along for our coronation celebrations last year and told us that the TS Band was the biggest part of the Sea Cadets back in the 80s. When he found out that we’d stopped doing it, Tim offered to relaunch the band himself!”
