A teenage girl who previously attended school in Bushey has been named among those who lost their lives in a devastating fire at a Swiss ski resort.
Charlotte Niddam, aged 15, died following the blaze at a New Year’s Eve event in Crans-Montana, where dozens of people were killed and more than a hundred others were injured. She is understood to have been working locally as a babysitter, according to information published by the resort.
In a statement shared on social media and reported by national outlets, Charlotte’s family confirmed her death. They described her as a “beautiful daughter and sister” and thanked people for their support in recent days.
Funeral arrangements are expected to take place in Paris later this week. Charlotte was formerly a pupil at Immanuel College in Bushey.
Swiss officials have confirmed that all those who died in the incident have now been formally identified. Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the bar’s management, with allegations including negligence resulting in death and injury.
Investigators believe the fire started when sparking flares used during celebrations ignited the ceiling of the crowded venue, causing the blaze to spread rapidly.
