Hertfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently in attendance at a fire on Pinner Road, Watford today (Tuesday, July 15).
It has been reported that smoke was seen billowing from a top-floor flat. Police closed the road at the junction with Oxhey Road to allow for emergency vehicles to attend the scene.
At this time, police have also asked for people to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue said: “[We] were called today at 11.33am to reports of a fire at a property in Pinner Road, Watford.
“Eight appliances were sent to scene from surrounding stations, with the first arriving within five minutes, an aerial ladder platform and command support unit.
“On arrival crews found a three-story property well alight. Firefighters rescued one person and handed them over to the ambulance service for assessment, all other persons are accounted for.”
Darren Cook, assistant chief fire officer, said: “I would like to thank our control team and fire crews for responding to this incident in Watford so quickly and professionally. Firefighters performed a roof rescue while crews in breathing apparatus inside the building worked hard to contain the blaze. Their prompt work prevented a more serious incident and ensured that everything was swiftly brought under control. I would also like to thank local residents for giving crews the space to work.”
As of 2.15pm, the fire was put out and the damping down is in progress.
Fire crews will be carrying out community reassurance and fire safety activities in the local area to support residents and provide advice.
