The A41 bypass in Berkhamsted has been closed following a road traffic collision.
Residents reported seeing ambulances, police and fire engines from around 6am today (Monday, March 17).
Police have been asking drivers to take alternative routes.
Police were called at around 5.50am to reports of a road traffic collision on the A41, prior to the junction for Chesham going southbound.
The collision involved a black Land Rover Velar and a pedestrian.
Police attended alongside colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service and Herts Fire and Rescue.
A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
Road closures remain in place at this time.
