Watford man with conviction for downloading child porn caught with more images

A Watford man with a previous conviction for downloading indecent images of children was caught with more of them on his laptop, a jury heard today.

Martin Garrett, 48, who is accused of six charges of making (downloading) images and one of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, is being tried in his absence after failing to turn up for his trial at St Albans crown court.

Prosecutor Stephen Earnshaw said on April 20, 2015 the police went to his flat in Whippendell Road and seized an Acer laptop and a USB stick.

When the computer was examined, an expert found 22 images at Category A, the most serious level, 27 at Category B, and 23 at Category C, the least serious level.

Mr Earnshaw told the jury: “In 2014 he was convicted of similar offences and was subjected to an order banning him from deleting his internet history.”

But the prosecutor said the expert found he had installed a “clean up”  programme called C-Clean, which allows users to delete their internet history. The last time it had been used was March 30 2015, three weeks before the police raid.

In a police interview, Garrett denied viewing indecent images of children on the laptop.
