A Garston resident who was pressed to keep bikes in a community shed has yet to receive support or guidance more than seven weeks after the bikes were stolen.
Carly Hicks, who lives at Coldharbour House with her family, has spoken out against Watford Community Housing (WCH) after her daughter’s bike was stolen on August 9, claiming the incident has been “swept under the carpet”.
Carly spoke with MyLocalNews at the end of September.
She said: “They’re the ones who told us we couldn’t keep bikes in the flats, that they would get taken away.
“My daughter started using the new bike shed they put up. One day later, it was gone.
“Hundreds of pounds worth of bikes have been stolen. It appears the thieves used an electric saw.
“No one from Watford Community Housing has got back to me since then. Nothing, not even an apology. They don’t care at all.
“They’ll take your rent and your council tax every month, but they don’t care about anything else.”
Following criticism, a WCH spokesperson said: “We’re committed to working with the police to help tackle crime in our communities, and we are supporting them with their investigations into the theft of bikes from Coldharbour House – this includes making CCTV footage available. We would encourage any resident who has concerns to contact us so that we can provide support.”
Hertfordshire Constabulary has investigated the theft but has so far failed to identify any suspects.
A spokesperson said: “All proportionate lines of enquiry were pursued by officers. Should any new information come to light, it will be acted upon accordingly.”
