BRAVE SHAVE: Woman from Bushey shaves head and raises £2,500 for cancer charity

A woman from Bushey has raised almost £2,500 by shaving her head in memory of her friend Will, who sadly died in February from a rare form of cancer.

Hollie Riordan braved the shave yesterday (Sunday, July 11) to remember William Rutt, her much-loved family friend who passed away five months ago from the rare form of cancer Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Hollie told BUSHEYNews: “I wanted to do something to show Will’s family that we are all still there and always thinking about him. When someone passes away, after the funeral it can feel like everyone goes home and gets on with their lives. I want to show that we all still have their backs and remember Will.”

All donations go to Alice’s Arc, a children’s cancer charity that specialises in funding and researching rhabdomyosarcoma.

Will Rutt had a difficult battle with rare cancer after first being diagnosed at 15, enduring grueling chemotherapy, being in remission twice and travelling to Mexico for special treatment in an attempt to save his life. He sadly lost his battle in February at 20 years old.

The shave was broadcast live on Hollie’s Instagram page @holliesbrowsandbeauty and is now available to watch on her page.

Hollie added: “Sometimes I feel a bit nervous for the shave but it’s just hair, it will grow back. We would do anything to have Will back. It’s also nice to show younger girls who are going through chemotherapy that you can still look beautiful without hair.

“I would like to thank the whole community, my family, friends and people I don’t even know for all the generous donations. It will make a huge difference and it has spurred me on even more.”
