BRAVE LOTTIE: 11-year-old with type one diabetes raises funds and awareness

Published on: 19th August 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

An 11-year-old girl from Maple Cross with type one diabetes is fundraising for Diabetes UK.

Lottie Willetts, who was diagnosed with diabetes at six years old, also wants to raise awareness about the condition and remind other people with diabetes that they are not alone.

During the pandemic, Lottie and her family hosted a garden sale at the front of their house to raise money for diabetes. Generous Lottie also raised £316 for Cancer Research UK recently by holding a bake sale with two school friends at St Mary’s CofE.

Claire Willetts, Lotties mum said: “We are all so proud of Lottie and how she manages, she is such a strong girl. We would like for more children and parents to know about the different options out there such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring to help people manage this horrible disease. There is so much out there but you have to push for it.”

The family has previously hosted a fundraising day at a pub in Chorleywood and raised more than £1,600 for Lottie’s hospital UCLH. Lottie is now planning more charity events in the future, including a community fun day at Woodoaks Farm in Maple Cross.
