BRAKE THE SYSTEM: Northwood resident joins campaign to raise £500,000 to support young people in schools

A Northwood resident has stepped up to ‘brake the system’ to help raise £500,000 and provide urgent mental health support in schools.

Resident Sallyann Keizer, founder and executive producer at Sixth Sense Media produced a film for the #BrakeTheSystem fundraising campaign launched on June 1 by mental health charity Beyond.

The charity founded by Johnny Benjamin MBE in 2018 is on a mission to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the UK.

In creating the campaign video, 24 members of the youth led charity spent the day with photographer Rankin and Sallyann who interviewed the young people about their stories.

Sallyann said it was a no-brainer to offer to make the four-minute film as she herself is an advocate for young people’s mental health.

She said: “I’ve always been passionate about young people and giving them a voice. When I heard from Louisa Rose, CEO of Beyond and that Jonny that they were planning to shoot images of their youth board with Rankin I knew there was a film to be made.”

Sallyann added that the day was powerful in so many ways remaining her how urgent it is to provide more support in schools for young people.

She said: “The day itself was so inspiring; Rankin was a joy to observe, putting the youth board members totally at ease. And hearing the stories of these young people and the mental health struggles they’d had brought tears to my eyes.

“‘n over 25 years of interviewing people these were some of the most powerful conversations I’ve recorded. However, despite the serious difficulties each young person had faced, they selflessly wanted to prevent others from suffering like them.

“Hearing how they felt before they received the help they needed only affirmed to me how urgent it is that everyone who can should donate to this campaign and ensure that schools and young people receive the help they desperately need.”
