A Bushey man who has been excelling in local quizzes has made it all the way to the final of a prestigious general knowledge competition.
After four months of heats and semi-finals, the cream of the UK’s quizzing crop joined Russell Davies at the BBC Radio Theatre in London for the BBC Radio 4 Brain of Britain 2023 final.
Among them was Bushey’s Colin Kidd.
He told BUSHEYnews: “I have been doing all kinds of quizzes for about 30 years. I did my first TV show in 1996 and have done lots of TV since then.
“Also, when lockdown started, I set up the Online Quiz League, so we have matches on Zoom every Wednesday night. It’s grown really big, with hundreds of players.”
Accountant Colin dominated his semi-final and recorded 13 points, with the next best contestant recording seven points.
This excellent display earned him a spot in the final in the 70th edition of the historic competition, which aired on Monday, December 4.
After a tense contest, Colin was agonisingly close to lifting the trophy, but eventually finished in second place behind Dan Adler, a computer plumber from Surrey.
Host Russell said: “There can only be one winner, but it goes without saying that you’re all winners, multiple times over, by having got this far in a very competitive series. You all deserve the warmest congratulations.”
