BOW-WOWZA: Northwood resident launches national mental health project with help from furry friends

A Northwood resident has launched a project which is set to improve children’s mental health with the help of a few four-legged friends.

Sallyann Keizer who owns the award-winning media company Sixth Sense has launched Bow-Wowza, a teaching package which covers eight modules on areas that have been scientifically proven to benefit children.

These packages come complete with the Bow-Wowza dogs voiced by CBeebies star Rebecca Keatley and actor Nigel Richards and are flexibly designed for teachers use in classrooms with a film to accompany each module, handouts, lesson plans and more.

Sallyann said the project has combined her passions in life and her heart is “bursting” with content that she is finally reaching children nationally.

She said: “Bow-Wowza has pulled together my three passions which is 20 years of working in television with a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning team, my passion for mental health with my two non-profits and then throw in my passion for dogs as I grew up with seven Labradors and that’s Bow-Wowza.

“It’s one of a kind in that it’s very entertaining and very funny, it’s real dogs vlogging from their sofa but they’ve got human animated mouths so it’s very quirky.

“It’s a set of friends that talk to each other and they’re talking to each other about their mental health and wellbeing.”

Sallyann added that she hopes to visit schools with the whole Bow-Wowza pack of therapy dogs in the future, along with special guests such as CBeebies presenters Katy Ashworth and Rebecca Keatley.

She said: “Our real goal is to transform the culture of a school and make wellbeing and mental health integral to the very essence of their being

“It’s about integrating gratitude, integrating kindness and all these things into our daily existence.”
