Pupils at Chalfont St Peter Church of England Academy have been inspired by a number of reading initiatives in recent months, including author visits, an online reading platform, a magazine club and a book swap.

Mrs Hayley Broad, Headteacher told ChalfontNews: “This year, our whole school focus is on raising the profile of reading in our school to ensure that our curriculum is literature rich, our reading scheme is irresistible and engaging, and our children develop a genuine lifelong love of reading.”

On World Book Day, March 3, pupils took part in a book swap with more than 2000 books, including fiction and non-fiction titles with something for all ages and abilities.

Mrs Broad added: “It is tremendously satisfying to see that actual paper books are still so valued and important to our families in an age when young people are sometimes felt to be spending too much time on screens.

Budding writers were inspired by visitors from authors Bethany Walker who visited Year 5 and Anna James who spent time with Year 3 and Year 4.  The school looks forward to welcoming another author Josh Lacey and hosting parent workshops to support reading at home in the coming months.
