BIN BLUFF: Overflowing donation bin in Abbots Langley discovered to be unauthorised

Published on: 27th October 2023   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

A donation bin which was overflowing with clothing has been found to be unauthorised and a notification for its removal has been issued.

Abbots Langley councillor Sara Bedford noticed that the green bin, located in the main car park on Abbots Road, was overflowing with donated clothing. When she contacted Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) to notify them of the state of the bin, she was informed that the bin is in fact unauthorised.

TRDC has now put a notice on the bin notifying the owners that the bin will be removed after a 14-day period. If the bin is not claimed, it will be removed and repurposed by a not-for-profit charity.

It has been suggested that the owners may have been using the bin to sell the donations for their own gain.

The other donation bins, which are blue, are not owned by the council but are authorised by them. They should be emptied every week and if any resident notices them overflowing, they can call the council on 01923 776611 to flag this.
