If community spirit could win trophies, Croxley Guild Cricket Club would definitely be in a league of their own.
There was no shortage of smiles at the club’s annual general meeting on Saturday, November 8, as players, families and supporters gathered to celebrate a season that chairman Gordon Dallas said was the “the most successful year yet”.
With 23 wins from 36 matches, a run of seven back-to-back victories, and the club’s first-ever five-wicket haul, members had plenty to cheer about.
Awards were given to Derek Manners for Top Wicket Taker, Ryan Redman for Best Bowling Performance, Ben Morrison for Best Fielder, and Sam Crane for Player’s Player.
Attendees at the meeting were also treated to Sheila Lovegrove’s legendary buffet.
Beyond the numbers, it’s the club’s community spirit that really shines, supported by their strong ties with Chess Valley Rugby Club, who look after the pitches in winter months.
Supported by volunteers, sponsors and a donation funding new equipment, the Guild head into next season determined to keep local cricket thriving.
