The Liberal Democrats stormed to victory in the by-election for the Tring West and Rural seat on Dacorum Borough Council yesterday (February 15).
Councillor Caroline Smith-Wright [pictured right] secured 62.7 per cent of the vote, an increase of 12.9 per cent since councillor John Mottershead, who recently resigned due to ill health, won the seat.
Cllr Smith-Wright has lived in Tring for more than 20 years, and as a parish councillor and community advocate, has organised a residents’ campaign group against overdevelopment of the countryside, and is currently helping to deliver projects such as a zebra crossing and a community café.
Victoria Collins [pictured left], who is running to be MP in Tring, said: “These results are a ringing endorsement of the brilliant campaign that Caroline has run, as well as the fantastic work of the Liberal Democrat administration at Dacorum Borough Council since taking control from the Conservatives just a few months ago.”
Ron Tindall, leader of Dacorum Borough Council, added: “I know that Caroline will be a brilliant councillor for the residents in Tring West and Rural. Her work as a parish councillor, and commitment to the local community has been inspiring.”
