Batting a ball at Pinner West End Lawn Tennis Club aged 12, Shyam Dave didn’t know he was starting a journey that would shape the club’s future.
Over a decade later, the sound of Shyam’s footsteps continues to echo across the courts – though now as head coach.
Specialising in junior development and team training, he has coached children to county level, with some of his students going on to play at Division One universities in America.
When the former head coach stepped down, members of the club approached Shyam, believing he would provide a “new lease of life” to the club.
Wanting to “impact as many lives” as he can, Shyam accepted the mission.
Speaking to Pinnernews, he said: “I want to take it forward as a buzzing club. As a head coach, I can impact the local community and help make tennis more accessible.
“Tennis is a constant battle – if you can manage your anxiety on the tennis court, you can take that into real life. That’s helped me a lot.”
Whether it’s tournaments, cardio tennis, or community BBQs, Shyam is creating inclusive, fun opportunities for everyone to get involved.
In September, the club are planning to come back with a bang, with three of the six courts being resurfaced over the summer.
