A group of runners from Kings Langley and Hemel Hempstead pushed themselves to the limit with a challenge that saw them raise nearly £14,000 for charity.
After raising an incredible £10,000 for Cancer Research UK through the 4x4x48 challenge last year, Jayden, Louis, Kavi, Taylor, Jackson, Tom and Harrison decided they wanted to make an even bigger impact.
From August 6 to 10, the boys ran 96 miles in 96 hours for The Hospice of St Francis.
Speaking to KINGSnews, Jayden shared: “We trained mentally and physically for months, and this time we built a bigger support network.”
Each of the runners had to combat a variety of challenges from working shifts, to injuries, to pushing through mental blocks.
Jayden added: “Everyone had their own struggles. The hardest part was forcing ourselves up to run again with almost no sleep.
“Finishing was even more rewarding than last year and left us on a huge adrenaline high. The bond between us is something special and grew even stronger through this.”
The whole community got behind the group, with a pub full of supporters cheering at The Paper Mill and Tesco donating food. The boys even received an inspiring visit form ultra-triathlon athlete Mitch Hutch.
Defying high expectations yet again, Jayden, Kavi, Taylor and Jackson ran 104.9 miles, with Louis running 100 miles. Tom and Harrison also completed the full 96.
The fundraising carried an important meaning for the team.
Jayden explained: “The Hospice of St Francis cared for my grandpa in his final months… This run was not just for him, but for every family supported by the hospice.”
With overwhelming community support and another challenge already being planned, the runners’ journey is far from over.
