This month, Watford News caught up with Watford Water Polo (WWP), who train at Watford Leisure Centre – Woodside, after a series of momentous wins.
WWP is one of the largest clubs in the UK and boasts a selection of teams across several age groups.
The U14s are celebrating after a historic win that led them to claim the Winter League Division 1 Championship title. The team won all eight of their U14 Division North games, promoting them to the Winter League Division 1 Championship.
After winning three games, the team headed into the final against fellow undefeated side Croydon Amphibians Water Polo on Sunday, March 23.
A tough match saw the Hertfordshire side go 3-2 down at half time, but after some changes to the team and their tactics, they managed to claw back a momentous 6-4 win.
Steve, membership secretary, men’s first team manager and U12s coach, said: “They’re absolutely chuffed! I think this is the first time we have gone through the season winning every match, which is a good achievement, and adds to the brilliant winter season we have had.”
The club are also celebrating their men’s and women’s teams, who have been promoted to the British Water Polo Division 1. This is the first time both teams have been in this division in the club’s history, marking an exceptional season for WWP.
The Men’s 1st team retained the Winter League Cup for the third time on Monday, March 31, and the U18s were crowned National Conference League Junior champions on Saturday, March 29.
Also, the U18 Girls team have progressed into the final four of the National Conference League.
WWP are always looking for more players, aged U12 and up, and offer three free sessions. To find out more, email watfordwaterpolo123@gmail.com
