BIG DANCE: Garston residents enjoy summer event following months of lockdown

Published on: 29th June 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Families in Garston were able to have a fun day out after months of lockdown and gathered to celebrate the return of the Big Dance event.

The event, part of Watford Borough Council’s Summer of Fun, took place at the Woodside Playing Fields on June 26.

It featured some of the biggest names in dance and cabaret – including Flawless (Britain’s Got Talent finalists), JiveSwing Hoppers (Europe’s leading Jive & Swing dancers), Charlie’s Angels (UK’s all female dance troupe) and My Favourite Things (the UK’s leading cabaret trio).

Throughout the afternoon, the main stage was filled with sensational performances, with everything from street dance to swing dance, salsa to ballroom, ballet to Bollywood, and jazz to jive.

Big Dance also featured dance classes for visitors to get involved with – with styles including street dance, lindy hop and 1920’s Charleston, for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said, “We’re thrilled to see the return of the Big Dance – a fun-filled summer day out for all the family. I’m really pleased that we are able to put on these summer events for residents, giving them a chance to come together in a safe way after a difficult 18 months. We hope everyone who came to the event had a great time!”

When visitors weren’t watching – or taking part in – the dancing, there was a selection of delightful food stands to help sustain them throughout the day. The event was run in accordance with government covid-19 guidelines, and social distancing measures were in place.

The event proved to be a great day out for all the family with dance, music, classes, food and drink stalls and more!

The next event in the Summer of Fun line up is Big Jive Swing on July 25.

It is one of the UK’s largest FREE Jazz Festivals featuring some of the best internationally acclaimed Jazz musicians, bands and dancers within the UK.

It’s a great family day out with live cabarets, dance classes for children and adults and a vintage photo booth, all for free.
