A Hemel Hempstead man who had sex with a 13-year-old Luton girl was jailed for 56 months today (September 27).
Romeo-Marius Nicolae, 37, had intercourse with the under-age girl on three occasions without using any contraception.
Luton crown court heard that Nicolae, who is from Romania, encouraged the girl to think they were in a relationship.
They had sex in his car in April this year, in her bedroom when she was off ill from school in May, and again in his car in June after he had bought her jewellery.
Her parents found out what had been going on and called the police.
Nicolae, of Perry Green, Hemel Hempstead, appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a child. He was aided in court by a Romanian interpreter.
Jailing him, Judge Rebecca Herbert said: “There was a significant degree of planning. You made efforts to be alone with this child. No doubt there was grooming behaviour. You persuaded her to think that she was in a relationship with you.
“The offences were aggravated because there was no suggestion of birth control.
“It was appalling behaviour.”
The judge made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect young girls from him. He must also register as a sex offender.
