Beavers from across Watford gathered on Saturday June 22 for their annual boat race.
The Beavers make junk model boats, helped by parents /guardians, and decorated them before taking them to Cassiobury Park for a Race, this initiative helps with their skills ‘challenge badge’.
Boats were judged for looks at the beginning of the event the winners were:
Best Boat design
1st Harley from the 2nd
2nd Elsie from the 64th
They then went to the river by the Rustic Bridge to race them all down the river:
Fastest Boat
1st Molly
2nd Twinkle
3rd Sabrina
Grey Beaver, Dave King, has been organising this event for 14 years and so far they have managed to get all of the boats to the finish line.
This year the weather was so good, the Beavers were also able to paddle in the river close to the Rustic Bridge.
Programme manager, Christine Wright, said: “Scouting is led exclusively by volunteers and we would really like to help the 300 young people on our waiting lists in and around Watford who are desperate to join but we can’t unless we can recruit more leaders, secretaries, treasurers and other roles.
“We have a role for everyone whether you have two hours a week, two hours a month or two hours a year to give, you will be supported by an experienced leader or administrator and we have a great free adult training scheme.”
