BATCHWORTH PARK: Northwood golf club members edge closer to victory in development battle

Published on: 11th September 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Campaigners who are fighting to protect a local golf club from development have been given a boost.

As reported in Northwood & Ruislip News last month, Northwood residents are being encouraged to support members of Batchworth Park Golf Club in nearby Rickmansworth. The club are trying to raise £500,000 to cover the cost of legal fees as a dispute over the leasing of the land continues.

Club members, who claim they hold a lease over the property for the next 73 years, are fighting with landowners Crown Golf, who have put forward the land as a potential development site in Three Rivers District Council’s (TRDC) Local Plan.

Though the land has been included in the Local Plan, it was decided at a TRDC sub-committee meeting on Thursday, August 24, that an alternative plan would go to consultation later in the year.

Golf club member Catherine Hamilton-Parr said: “In this new plan, they ruled out development of the golf course as well as several other sites.

“We believe that protection of the green belt, the uncertainty over the of the ownership of the lease, and the inability to guarantee the land is available for development makes it unlikely that this decision would be overturned.”

Deputy leader of TRDC councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst further assuaged fears, stating to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews: “We’re putting the alternative plan forward, and our position will not change.”

Crown Golf has been contacted for comment.
