A drink driver who “wiped out” £150,000 worth of BMWs in Bishop’s Stortford was jailed for eight months.
Jonathan Clarke, 32, from Watford, was driving a Toyota Avensis at 100mph on a 30 mile per hour road when he hit the kerb on a bend and rolled the car over at least twice.
The Avensis ploughed into the seven BMWs that were parked on the forecourt of Barons Stanstead BMW in Stanstead Road.
St Albans Crown Court heard it happened at 10.22pm on Sunday, September 8, last year.
Prosecutor Neil King said Clarke had agreed to pick up a man and a woman from an address in Bishop’s Stortford.
Mr King said: “The man formed the impression the defendant was drunk – he turned out to be twice over the drink drive limit.
“His driving became dangerous. He overtook erratically and the man said: ‘Stop. Let me out. ’ He saw the speedometer was in excess of 100 miles per hour on a 30 mile per hour road.”
After the crash the man managed to clamber out. The woman was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow for treatment.
