BAD BEHAVIOUR: Police investigate alleged racial abuse incident at Watford FC away game

Lancashire Police are investigating an alleged incident of racial abuse aimed at a Watford FC player.

On Saturday, December 21, the Hornets travelled to Turf Moor to face Burnley for a game which saw Tom Cleverley’s team finish on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat.

The pain of the loss was only aggravated further after the incident of alleged abuse at the match.

According to reports, Burnley fans reacted quickly and spotted the offender, who was promptly removed from the stand and interviewed by police.

A statement on Watford FC’s website states: “Watford FC wishes to place on record its thanks to Burnley Football Club, the match officials and Lancashire Constabulary for their actions in relation to an incident during the first half of today’s game.

“The Hornets join with the Clarets in urging anyone with information relating to the incident to please come forward.

“Watford FC will be offering its fullest support to the player towards whom the alleged abuse was directed.”
