A Bushey resident has abseiled 17 storeys for London’s Air Ambulance Charity.
On Thursday, September 5, Harry Kyriakou joined a team of fearless fundraisers to abseil from the highest rooftop helipad in Europe, located at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
Harry spoke about his nerves after agreeing to the jump: “I nearly backed out after a week, I thought to myself, ‘What are you thinking?’.”
Harry’s tactic for the daring feat was to not think too much about what he was planning to do, adding: “When I felt I had been doing it for a while, I looked down but I was still really high up.”
With temperamental weather conditions, the wind caused the ropes to shake violently.
Harry added: “The only way I can explain it is as a jolt of thunder that wakes you up.”
Sharing the reason why he wanted to jump for the charity, he said: “If there is an emergency, we need air ambulances.”
Harry has smashed his £300 target and raised £415 at the time of writing.
