A man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and perverting the course of justice in connection with an incident in Watford town centre.
The 37 year old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested on Friday, October 22 following a manhunt carried out by Operation Scorpion officers and supported by the Local Crime Unit. He is currently in police custody.
The arrest is in connection with an incident on Watford High Street on Friday, October 8, when an 18 year old woman was grabbed by the arm as she walked with friends.
Detective Inspector Tony Fontenelle, who leads the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “This incident understandably attracted a lot of interest both on social media and in the local press.
“We take incidents like this very seriously, and Watford town centre is a place where everyone should expect to feel – and be – safe.
“Following this coverage, we have been made aware of some as yet unsubstantiated claims that other women may been approached by a man in the town centre. If this has happened to you, we would urge you to contact us to make a report.”
