ARRESTED: Edgware man arrested as police target vehicle crime

Published on: 3rd October 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A 24-year-old man from Edgware was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and being concerned in the supply of drugs.

His arrest comes amid eight other arrests following a recent targeted police operation to tackle vehicle crime in Welwyn Hatfield, Hertsmere and St Albans.

Hotspot areas identified by crime analysts were proactively targeted across the area by Scorpion officers and Neighbourhood Policing Teams over a four-day period in September.

Five vehicles, including stolen and cloned vehicles, were also recovered during the operation – they were a Mercedes C300, Audi A4, VW Golf, Scoda Fabia and a motorbike.

Twelve people were stopped and searched during the operation and three addresses were subsequently searched.  Knives, drugs and number plates were recovered.

Detective Chief Inspector Luke Whinnett said: “We have made an impact in dealing with vehicle crime across these areas and are making our roads and communities safer.  We received lots of positive feedback from residents.”

The operation took place from Monday, September 16, to Thursday, September 19.
