Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision which occurred in St Albans in the early hours of Sunday 11th March.

At 4am a red Vauxhall Zafira had been travelling away from St Albans on Oaklands Lane, Smallford when, for reasons unknown, the car left the road, collided with a raised bank and came to rest against a tree.

Officers and the ambulance service attended. Sadly, a short time later the driver, a 35 year old man from Luton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed what happened or who believes they saw the vehicle in the area prior to the collision is asked to contact PC Paul Stanbridge from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Forensic Collision Investigation Unit via the 101 non-emergency number quoting ISR 136 of 11th March.
