ANOTHER DIRECTION: Bushey songwriter celebrates launch of first album

Published on: 4th March 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

A poet and lyricist from Bushey is celebrating the launch of her first album.

Rosalind Winton has lived in Bushey for more than 40 years since she was a music-loving teen. She always loved music and had a vast record collection.

At 17, she fell in love with the music of Copacabana singer Barry Manilow, who has remained an inspiration throughout her life.

She said: “I have always wanted to tell a story with my lyrics like he does.”

Twenty years ago, Rosalind joined The British Acadmey of Songwriters and Composers, which connects musicians with songwriters. In 2020, she started writing with cruise ship performer AJ Clarke.

Their song One Day Soon, about the COVID-19 pandemic, was a hit with listeners when it was released in 2020 and gave them the impetus to commit to an album.

Rosalind said: “Eventually AJ said to me, ‘we have enough for an album – let’s just go for it’. I had no idea the amount of work this would involve.”

Despite never having met, Rosalind and AJ worked tirelessly to collaborate on Another Direction.

Rosalind said: “It was a huge labour of love. AJ got musicians on the ship to put live music to it and we even designed the album cover ourselves.

“I have always felt songs should say something that people can connect with and should have a universal appeal.”
