An indoor sports club that’s been providing for adults with learning disabilities for 40 years has celebrated its anniversary in style.
Puffins Sports Club was founded in 1981 and is still going strong at its home at Everyone Active’s Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre. It’s now the centre’s oldest ongoing club.
The group meet every weekend to play such sports as badminton, basketball and curling, as well as taking part in various outdoor trips through the year.
The party had cakes provided by Everyone Active and Marlowes bakery The Eggfree Cake Box, as well as a special visitor in the form of Mayor of Dacorum, Stewart Riddick.
Volunteer Vishva Vaid said: “It was a wonderful celebration which brought together all abilities and backgrounds within our community. We have been running since 1981 and hope to run for many more years!”
“We run every Saturday at Everyone Active Hemel Hempstead between 11am-1pm and offer a range of indoor sports. We also have a number of excursions a year which include trips to Stanborough Park, Hollywood Bowl, Grand Union Canal boat trip and the Herts Disability Games.
“If you know anybody who has learning difficulties and would like to be a part of an inclusive sports club, we’d love to welcome you so feel free to come by.”
